A Journey Full of Perplexion (Part-11)

The sky was crystal clear and weather was just perfect. Sheila, Aryan and Shreya were heading to the top of the mountain ,where the temple was. Suddenly, the sky started showing it's colours. It was getting darker and darker.

"Now, this is common! Nothing to be worried about" Sheila smiled at the frightened face of Shreya. She could feel something out of usual happening. But her heart was in denial. It was a happy moment for the Rawat family and she didn't want to ruin the day with senseless doubts.

Sheila and Aryan were walking the steep climb easily, but it was very hard for Shreya to match their pace as she'd never walked so much on even on plains leave alone  hilly areas. Aryan gave his hand to her and she came forward.
"Maa I guess we should take a pause",
Aryan suggested and his care showed in his eyes.
"Sure..." Sheila said with a bit of uncertainty in her voice.
They sat under a walnut tree.

"Wow it's raining! Aryan see! Maa!" Shreya was literally jumping with excitement and joy, forgetting all her exhaustment. She took Aryan's hand and started dancing. It was just a  drizzle ,but Sheila's face started losing colour.
"We will be reaching the temple soon",she said to no one in particular, probably to herself. Reassuring herself.
"Yeah! And it would be fun to walk in the rain!" Shreya was giggling.

They might have walked around 16 kilometres and the shikhara of the temple could be seen. The surroundings, however, were foggy as if the clouds had descended onto the hills.
"Maa how far now it could be?" Shreya asked.
"Around 1-ish kilometres"

They kept on walking without thinking about it as if by habit. Their conscious was focussed on each of their emotions they had connected to the rain.

It was raining heavily now.

They stopped to find shelter and finally found it under tin roofs. Shreya would close her eyes tight as the loud lightnings would terrify her. After one particularly loud roar, she remained in a shelter of her own, Aryan's hug; but deep down he was feeling scared too. It was raining cats and dogs and plains were nearly flooded.

Sheila was numb now. The past flashed in front of her eyes and the present flickered. Something had happened about 20 years ago in the year 1998...
Sheila and Arun, Aryan's father, were going to the same temple. Everything was alright until the downpour, flood, landslides and the death...

"Arya......." An incomplete whoop was heard and Aryan looked back, the road had split into two and Sheila was hanging on the tree, below of hers was a deep, dark valley hungry for lives. Aryan was blank. He wanted to run as fast as he could and bring his maa to the safest place but he couldn't run. He took small steps. Moving slowly towards his mother and suddenly a gushing stream started gulping Shreya. He looked forth and back. In front of him was his mother, who had sacrificed her life for him and behind was his love, his soulmate. He couldn't make any choice. Aryan couldn't stop his tears. He had no time. He was crying and crying. Apologizing. He decided that he was about to save Sheila.

Nature, however,is quick. The giant stream swallowed three of them in it's mouth.

Sheila's doubts were right. History repeated itself. Three lives and lots of memories flushed out in the torrent of time. And this Journey Full of Perplexion ended before it could have even begun...
